본 공모전은 ACTIVATE! Public Space Design Competition으로, Architecture for Humanity Chicago가 주최한 행사이다.
CDs/DVDs are made of polycarbonate plastic and aluminum. 300 cubic feet of natural gas, two cups of crude oils and 24 gallons of water are used to manufacture one pound of plastic or 30 CDs. Recycling Cds and DVDs saves a substantial amount of energy and prevents pollution attributed to the manufacturing of these items. Disks are considered as plastic #7, a catch-all category for many different kinds of products. They are not generally accepted in most community recycling programs. However, in Chicago, CDs and DVDs can be sent through the mail to CD recycling center and Green Disk. CDs can be recylcled for use in new products. By cooperating with schools in the neighborhood and community centers, all of disks can be collected to be reused for kaleioscopic parasols and igloos on the site to provide lively and vivid street furniture and play equipments and afterwards those can be sent to the recycling center.
