Conference Proceeding: A Study on the Architectural Prototyping of Seaweed Plastic Compoundby FGF
Conference: 2023 AIK Fall Conference
Researcher: Seokwon Choi, Yousub Bang
One of the industries that produces a lot of wastes is the building sector, so research is being actively carried out globally on material circulation to reduce waste and accomplish the target of carbon neutrality in order to prevent the adverse effects of this. The purpose of this study is to experiment 3D printed prototypes utilizing bioplastics derived from seaweed wastes that have biodegradable ingredients. Rapid design, production, and experimentation made possible by 3D printing result in savings in costs, time, and resources. It is also anticipated that fewer waste byproducts will be produced throughout the prototying process. The setting values of 3D printing and the mixture variations and their ratios are guided from many attempts of tests to blend a seaweed-based compound with bioplastics. The optimized materials and settings are used to manufacture mock-up models of a column design, and the architectural integration of formwork and design components can be further investigated, starting from this basic 3D printing experiment.
